She is blonde (which most of the final girls in the series are blonde) which defies the dumb blonde stereotype. Also the final girl Alice (King) isn’t your typical final girl. This broke slasher norms because there was a female killer (surprise for anyone who hasn’t seen this yet, Jason doesn’t come in until Part 2). The legendary Tom Savini worked on the makeup. The movie ends with the fates of Jason and the main characters up in the air, something that isn’t necessarily new in the series. Clay eventually finds Whitney who is being held captive by Jason because she kind of looks like his mom (not really but hey she has plot armor).
Clay comes across a group of friends at a cabin on the lake who are Jason’s main victims for the film. The locals tell him to give up knowing Jason probably got her. Clay (Padalecki) comes to Crystal Lake in search of his missing sister Whitney (Righetti) who went missing at the beginning of the film after going camping with some friends. The kills are bloodier and more brutal than anything we’ve seen in the prior films. With a budget that was bigger than the first five films combined (and the second highest of the series), a lot of young talent was able to get drawn into this film. The story isn’t necessarily original but a hodge podge of elements from the first four films. A lot of them were shit and didn’t capture the essence of the original films but I actually really enjoyed this remake. Most of them were made by the same company and produced by (gag) Michael Bay of all people. Synopsis: You either love or hate the wave of horror movie remakes and reboots from 2000s. This movie was so bad we wouldn’t see Jason again on screen until 2001. This is also the only movie in the franchise where we don’t see Jason without the mask on. At the Voorhees house we see the Necronomicon from The Evil Dead and at the end of the movie, Freddy Krueger’s glove appears to drag Jason’s mask to hell. He teams up with supernatural bounty hunter Creighton Duke (Williams) who is the best part of the movie in a movie that features very few cool moments. Stephen (LeMay) is the father of the grand niece and is trying to do anything to save his girls.
This movie was odd because it was one of the few where a male is the main protagonist. This also retcons the premise from the original where Jason was an only child. Because if you are related to a notorious psychopath why wouldn’t you leave town. Jason possesses other people (via some kind of demon snake/slug thing) until he gets back to Crystal Lake where his step sister, step niece, and step 2nd cousin (or however the hell the lineage works) still live.
